Which email platform is right for your farm?

First, do you need an email platform?

If Grapevine builds your farm website, we’ll make sure all order-related (“transactional”) emails are set up, and typically that happens directly through your website platform.

Most farms also choose to use a second platform for marketing emails, including newsletters and e-commerce automations. Email and SMS automations help you cultivate relationships, automatically turning leads into customers and customers into better customers — all while you focus on running your farm.

Best email platform for each farm website platform

If you’re wondering which email/SMS platform to use for your farm marketing, it depends on the website platform you’re using. (Check out our detailed comparison of farm website platforms!)

While some platforms, like Shopify*, have dozens of possible email integrations, we have narrowed it down to our favorites.

We recommend Drip* for email if you’re using GrazeCart for your farm website. The only other platform that integrates with GrazeCart is Mailchimp, and it doesn’t pull enough data to do full e-commerce email automations.

Drip temporarily disabled its SMS service for new users in 2022 and has not brought it back as of May 2024, so we use YetiText as the SMS companion to Drip.

If your farm website is built on Shopify*, we recommend Klaviyo*. Powerful automations and fully integrated SMS under the same roof make it the clear winner!

If you’re using Square* for your farm website, we recommend Klaviyo*. Square has built-in email, but it’s much more limited. The Klaviyo/Square integration is newer, so we’ll work together to ensure it does everything we expect it to!

If you’re not doing e-commerce automations, you could also choose Square’s built-in email or Mailchimp.

If you have a Squarespace* website, we’ll make a recommendation based on your farm’s needs. Typically we recommend either Mailchimp (which also has built-in SMS) or Squarespace’s own email platform (no built-in SMS, so we’ll recommend a tool based on your needs).
