Marketing Strategy & Copywriting

After completing my BFA in Creative Writing, I was incredibly lucky to be taken under the wing of local farmers Brennan and Gwendolyn Washington of Phoenix Gardens, well known in the southeast as tireless advocates for both food justice and young people in need of mentorship. I spent the summer selling produce at several of their markets around town, and in between helped out with the farm’s communications needs, eventually building enough of a portfolio to start a copywriting career. For three years I developed communications strategies and created internal and external processes for local food nonprofits, community resource organizations, and small businesses. During this time I became a founding member of both a statewide farmers market coalition and an award-winning digital marketing agency.

In 2014, I felt the call to become involved in my local food system in a more hands-on way. Again with the encouragement of my friends at Phoenix Gardens, I served in the first cohort of Georgia FoodCorps service members, implementing farm to school programs in Title I schools in Atlanta. After my year of service, I joined the Wylde Center in Decatur, GA, where I created a new farm to school program encompassing 20+ Title I schools in Atlanta. I went on to lead the organization’s education department, managing a team of incredibly dedicated educators and implementing updated systems and a more robust communications strategy.

I stepped back from my position in 2022 to pursue a BFA in Graphic Design, continuing to provide marketing support for the organization while freelancing, completing my second degree, and searching for a place to land. I am so happy to have found this in Grapevine, and can’t wait to get connected with more folks doing the great work of strengthening our food system while providing solutions to make that work easier. When not at my desk, you can find me backpacking, doing yoga, wrangling my two crazy dogs, and waiting for the next Wordle to drop.
