Remote E-commerce Project Manager

for Local Farms (Shopify/Klaviyo)

This position is: closed as of June 15th, 2023, but see the new opening here. We have emailed all applicants. If you don’t see an email from us, please check your spam filter.

Responsibilities

This position takes ownership of projects and client relationships, with a focus on Shopify and Klaviyo.

Most of our clients are small family farms who need our help building their image, being found online, and increasing their sales. We also serve other local food businesses and local food non-profits or government agencies with more communication-oriented needs.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Execute the majority of Shopify and Klaviyo projects hands-on. This can range from setting up basic storefronts to more complex sites with apps, custom liquid, etc. You’ll collaborate with teammates for support with related needs like graphic design, copywriting.

  • Learn farm e-commerce platform GrazeCart (on our dime) and execute GrazeCart projects hands-on (We'll provide additional training opportunities for other skills/platforms as well!)

  • Manage additional project types (beyond e-commerce), based on skillset and interests

  • Support the team in answering inquiries from current and prospective clients when Shopify and Klaviyo are involved.

  • Manage project timelines & ongoing client communication

  • Play a role in ongoing improvement of internal processes, task templates, and documentation.

  • Watch for opportunities, contribute ideas, and develop new packages and service lines

  • Contribute to in-house marketing efforts

We want to create opportunities for fulfilling work and ongoing growth for every teammate. We’re always interested to hear what ideas you have for your role to expand or evolve as you grow professionally. We’re a small team so there can be a lot of crossover work, based on your skills (see bonus skills below).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a creative critical thinker who enjoys getting to know clients. If you appreciate having processes and systems in place, relish digging in to solve a challenge, and enjoy taking charge and knocking out tasks and projects, you’ll probably love it here. If you struggle with focus, motivation, or procrastination, this is not the job for you.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solid professional experience in Shopify, including all backend configuration, ongoing management, analysis of apps, installation and use of apps, troubleshooting, basic use of liquid, reporting

  • Solid professional experience in Klaviyo or another email marketing platform, including account setup, managing lists and segments, and developing flows (SMS experience is a plus)

  • Skilled at problem-solving and coming up with creative solutions

  • Client service mindset

  • Project management/account management experience, including running meetings, proactive communication, and the ability to think through project steps, plan, and anticipate ripple effects or related needs

  • Ability to be very present in the moment, listen thoughtfully, and ask questions, whether in team conversations or client conversations

  • Strong ambition and enthusiasm

Because Grapevine team members can work from anywhere, they need reliable high-speed wifi; a space and schedule that enable blocks of uninterrupted time to focus on work; the self-discipline to be productive on their own; and a professional background view for client video conferencing.

Preference will be given to candidates with passion and/or experience in farming or local food.

Compensation & Benefits

This 1099 position pays $25-32/hour + per-project bonuses (depending on hourly rate).

This position requires 30-40 hours per week, based on your availability, the diversity of your skill set, and the range of project types that you can take on independently.

Our positions are 1099 due to the complexities of maintaining W2 employees in multiple states. It’s important to us that all teammates feel like an integral part of a longterm team. We intend to convert full-time teammates in California, Colorado, and New York to W2 within the next year.

One big benefit of working with Grapevine is that we all work remotely — so you can travel the world, housesit, live in an RV, stay home with your dog, etc. Unlike salaried positions, you’re paid for every hour you work, and you’ll choose your max hours per week in order to maintain work-life balance. Additional benefits include a very flexible time off policy, an annual project bonus to make it easier to take time off, and learning opportunities. We plan to build this package over time based on company growth and feedback from teammates.

We developed our own unique system that integrates with our project management tool to automatically calculate profit per project (based on hours input and other expenses) and divide it among teammates who work on that project. This means you’re naturally rewarded for a high level of productivity, as well as for the increased efficiency that develops over time as you build your experience.

Opportunities for Growth

Roles are always evolving here and we encourage teammates to share ideas for their role to grow.

About Working at Grapevine Local Food Marketing

We are:

  • Inclusive & anti-racist

  • Listeners, creators, & collaborators

  • Joyful in our work

  • Committed to helping small farms grow

  • Super productive

  • A tiny team with a solid plan for growth

We’ve served over 100 clients since our launch in 2016 with a strong record of referrals and client testimonials. We go out of our way every single day to solve client problems, deliver beautiful solutions, and ultimately help our clients grow their businesses.

Remote work is a benefit for many of us, but it can also be a challenge. We’re always working on this challenge! Solutions that are currently in place include 1:1 calls for all new teammates to get to know current teammates; regular 1:1 calls and group meetings (but only the good kind!); collaboration via Clickup, IM, and impromptu video calls; paid social calls and group activities; and an emphasis on open communication.

It is our sincere intention to make Grapevine a triumphant enterprise for everyone involved.

  • We want our clients to get a good value for what they pay for our services — so it's well worth their investment and their business grows as a direct result of working with us.

  • We want every teammate to feel like they're paid a fair rate that recognizes their value and rewards their unique contributions to the company.

  • We want work-life balance to be the default. Each of us has different needs for day-to-day schedule and ideal weekly hours worked.

  • We want to achieve an enjoyable work environment for every teammate — one in which people look forward to starting work each day, really love what they do, and enjoy their coworkers.

  • We want to create the kind of work environment where high-pressure, last-minute scrambling are the exception, not the norm, and where we can all plan our workweeks and also count on quality time off. (As a small team and a growing business, sometimes we'll need to pull together to solve a problem or meet a deadline under challenging circumstances. But we want to be fresh, well-rested, and ready for the challenge when it comes!)

  • We want to create opportunities for fulfilling work, ongoing growth, and role evolution for every teammate.

We believe achieving these goals requires a balance of several factors: prices we charge clients; rates we pay teammates; creative ideas that add to the overall value; purposeful internal structure and processes; clear, ego-free internal communications; a high level of productivity for every teammate; and an approach that empowers every teammate to take the lead in owning projects and driving the company forward.

Grapevine won GD USA American Graphic Design Awards in 2019 and 2020 and has partnerships/consultant affiliations with Klaviyo, Squarespace, Square Online, Shopify, Drip, Local Line, Local Food Marketplace, and GrazeCart. We are members of APPPA, National Young Farmers Coalition, and Slow Food USA.

We can’t wait to read your application!

We celebrate diversity and strive for an inclusive work environment. All qualified people are strongly encouraged to apply.

Only applications received via the form linked below will be considered.
