Tell us about one of your favorite farm projects

“One of my favorite assignments was photographing a women-owned collective CSA program for a magazine story. I loved the challenge of getting good photos of their wash/pack area.“

Why do you work with farmers?

“I don't think there's anything more important than convincing more people to eat local, sustainably-produced food. It mitigates so many challenges: environmental stewardship, food waste, supply chain weaknesses, rural employment and economic struggles, nutrition and health, and even workers' rights in the form of increased transparency. I worked on a local-scale diversified vegetable farm for four years, and learned a lot about what a huge impact one small farm can have a on a community, and how awesome it is to eat well.”

What’s in your kit?

“I always bring two camera bodies - currently a Nikon D850 and a D750, backup cards and batteries, speed light, bounce cards, transmitters, a stand, and a big diffuser. For lenses, I always have my 24-70, 60mm micro, 85mm 1.4, and a 70-200 in the bag. And plenty of water and snacks :)”

What’s your lighting setup?

“90% of the time on farms I work with available light, but I have two speed lights, wireless transmitters, stands and diffusers. I bring them to things like winter dairy jobs or if I know I'm going to be setting up product or food photography.”

Is your business insured?

“Yes.”
